Status: Ongoing
Country: South Sudan
Partner: Internet Society South Sudan Chapter
Impact goal: 30
About the project
The Internet Society South Sudan Chapter aims to establish reliable internet connectivity at Yei Resource Center in Yei River County. Building on prior digital skills training conducted in the capital Juba and community network readiness assessments conducted in Yei and Nimule, this project will install an internet access point in Yei Community Resource Center, train three local network technicians for ongoing maintenance, and deliver a 3-day digital literacy and online safety training for 30 community members. The initiative aims to create a sustainable model for community-based connectivity, enabling access to education, economic opportunities, and digital services in a previously underserved area.
Updates
A community network is now up and running at the Yei Resource Center in Yei River County, South Sudan, marking the successful completion of the first phase of our project with the Internet Society South Sudan Chapter.
The newly installed network provides a reliable point of internet access for the local community, creating new opportunities for learning, communication, innovation, and participation in the digital world.
To make sure people can use this access confidently and meaningfully, the project has now moved into its second phase: a digital skills training for community members from different groups across Yei River County.
The training focuses on practical digital literacy, online safety, communication, and using the internet to support education, livelihoods, entrepreneurship, and community development. By combining connectivity with digital skills, the project is helping ensure that access translates into meaningful opportunities for the community.
