Project status: Closed

Country: Mexico

Partner: Redes

Impact goal: 40 000 families

About the project

The Tayolichikawalis Initiative is a connectivity model that strengthens the heart of the Masehual and Tutunaku people in Sierra Norte of Puebla in the facing of Covid-19. The aim of the project was to improve the telecommunications infrastructure of the Tosepan Titataniske Cooperative Union due to its importance in the Covid-19 pandemic scenario.

Results

Before the project started, it was necessary to understand the connectivity situation in the region. It turned out not to be sufficient and had to be improved urgently by installing new antennas and radios.

Afterwards, the contents and information that would reach people was outlined, taking the locals knowledge and practices into account.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the activities of the project changed. Face to face meetings and workshops were postponed until after the pandemic. As a consequence of this some activities are yet to happen, even after the end of the project. The focus during the project thus leaned more towards accessing the 6 GHz band, as well as purchasing and installing the new equipment, which meant that the aim of the project could still be fulfilled.
